MMR was born out of frustration with changing times after the 2024 Election, a need for comradery, a desire to help or benefit those most at risk during the next four years and a love of music.
Founder, Paul Engebretson, gathered people who had a connection to the local Minnesota music scene. Attendees included musicians, sound technicians, record store owners, radio and podcast hosts, writers and fans. People who have built a community around music.
Still in its infancy, MMR is figuring out how we can best support and enact human rights, inclusion, and the fight against authoritarianism that threatens all of the livelihoods and existence of ourselves and our communities. We do that as a community with online communication and in-person meetings. (Learn more about joining the discussion.)
More about Paul Engebretson
Retiring after a forty plus year career in advertising and marketing Paul knew he had to act after the reelection of the worst President in U.S. history.
“I couldn’t sit idly by while authoritarians wreaked havoc across the board. After the election I felt like my life could have an unhappy ending where the bad guys won, I decided to try and find some ways to get into some good trouble and maybe help the vulnerable in our communities.”
Paul lived in St. Paul with his partner and love Sheila Knight and their two crazy rescue dogs. He had two delightful and committed adult children and a grandson who means the world to him. “When decisions are made to deny science and wreck the planet, I take that as a personal attack on my family. I will fight back.”
A graduate of the University of Minnesota, Paul’s passions included the local Twin Cities music scene, golf and a long suffering Twins fan. (Learn more about Paul.)
